Anthracite

Bituminous

A dense coal, usually black, used primarily for electricity generation and steel production.

 

Peat

An early stage of coal formation, composed of partially decayed plant material, used as a fuel in some regions.

Lignite

Also known as brown coal, it has the lowest carbon content and is mainly used in power plants near the mining sites.

Graphite

A crystalline form of carbon related to coal, used in pencils and as a lubricant, not typically used as fuel.
